The Panzerkampfwagen III, also known as Pz.Kpfw.III, Panzer III, or Pz.III, was a German medium tank of the Second World War. It was produced in series from 1937 to 1943. In the official military classification of Nazi Germany, this tank was designated as Sd.Kfz. 141 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug 141), which translates to “special purpose vehicle 141.” In Soviet historical documents and popular literature, it was referred to as “Type 3,” “T-III,” or “T-3.” These combat vehicles were utilized by the Wehrmacht from the early days of World War II. The last recorded instances of Pz.Kpfw.III’s operational use within regular units of the Wehrmacht date back to mid-1944, while isolated tanks continued to see combat until Germany’s surrender.
